ABSTRACT

New technologies have changed the way individuals communicate by providing convenient ways for participants to observe each other's online activity. Facebook gives the opportunity to see one's romantic partner's activities by checking their history of posts and pictures, and their old and new social connections. According to Attachment Theory, individuals' attitudes towards themselves and others are formed during childhood, and dictated by the dynamics of their relationships with their primary caregivers. Personality is another factor that has been studied in relation to romantic relationships. Personality can be defined as a steady set of features and tendencies which establish communalities and peculiarities in an individual's feelings, thoughts and behaviours. A standard multiple regression analysis was carried out in order to explore the relationship between attachment style, personality traits and individuals' attitudes towards electronic observation of romantic partners. Extraverted and agreeable individuals were expected to have a positive attitude towards electronic observation of romantic partners.
