ABSTRACT

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are ecologically important symbiotic fungi associated with more than 80% of terrestrial plant species. They are vital components of soil that promote the uptake of nutrients and protect plants from various type of stresses. This chapter reviews recent investigations based on use and production of mycorrhizal technology for efficient biofertilizers. The chapter discusses the cultivation process of secondary metabolites, which can be induced due to mycorrhizal colonization. The chapter also elaborates on the principles and applications of mycorrhizal technology for sustainable farming, and discusses the limitations, industrial applications, and future prospects of mycorrhizal technology.
