ABSTRACT

While doing my research with the WHO Immunology Research and Training Centre in the late 1970s, I realized we needed a research centre here in Kenya. Fortunately, I had two other supporters, yes, who are now faculty members. We wrote a proposal to the faculty of medicine. So the proposal went to the faculty of medicine for review and then they said there are some fellows here who want to start a research wing of the medical school. My senior colleagues were dismissive, and said, “Wow, this little boy he wants to do this?” And some of the other fellows said, “But why when I have my research in my office?” And another one said, “I also have my laboratory in the office so we don’t need this.”
