ABSTRACT

The progressive improvement in technology offers the opportunity for innovation in learning environments. Edmodo, which presents as a social networking platform, promotes solutions for the development of teaching and learning activities, including English language learning. This current study investigated high school students’ activities in Edmodo and their perceptions in relation to the application of Edmodo to English language learning. The study used a mixed-method approach, and data were collected from 112 tenth-grade students in one of the senior high schools in Bandung. The instruments were questionnaire and interview. The findings showed that the students mostly used Edmodo for submitting their tasks and tests. The students showed various perceptions, from agreement to disagreement, on the use of Edmodo for English language learning. The highest positive response showed that students agreed that Edmodo could save them time and effort in getting information related to their English learning. Problems in the use of Edmodo acknowledged by the students in this research were unstable data when submitting multiple-choice tests, and the difficulty of opening web links in Edmodo when using the mobile application.
