ABSTRACT

Ecological restoration quality monitoring is important for implementing ecological restoration on mining cities. Based on RS and GIS techniques, the present study uses LANDSET satellite data to calculate NDVI (Normalized Vegetation Index), EVI (Enhanced Vegetation Index) and NDMI (Normalized Water index) for years 2007, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2016. Through comparative analysis, this study select NDVI to invert FVC (Fractional Vegetation Coverage). The results reveal that: (1) NDMI correlates with NDVI better than EVI; (2) Unban area’s FVC has been staying a low level in Wu’an and there ecological condition needs to be improved; (3) During years 2007–2010, the FVC of Wu’an changed a little generally; (4) In general, ecological status of the city enhanced from 2013 to 2016. This paper shows that after the government’s closure of some small mines and with the help of reclamation measures and the Taihang Mountain greening projects, the ecological restoration goes well.
