ABSTRACT

The affliction of the sub valvular apparatus in rheumatic MS is almost universal in the current era. The inflammation and scarring consequent to the rheumatic process involves the sub valvular structures of chordae tendineae and the papillary muscles (PM) to a variable degree and has a significant impact on outcomes for both percutaneous and surgical treatment procedures. In this section we discuss in brief the clinical anatomy, pathology, diagnosis and management approaches to sub-valvular disease (SVD) in rheumatic MS.
