ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an application of the Oak Ridge Siting Analysis for Power Generation Expansion tool for screening a sample set of Department of Defense (DOD)'s military base sites for possible powering with small modular reactors (SMRs). The purpose of the siting evaluation is to demonstrate the capability of an innovative DOE tool for DOD and Emergency Management applications. A Geographic Information Systems based site suitability approach is extensively used to evaluate and rank available land areas for facility locations. Power demands on the base associated with military missions, and local infrastructure for residents and workers tend to be considerable and need to be feasible for a site-located SMR. Cell by cell comparison methodology could assist in the evaluation of SMR site selections. Weighted Linear Combination is a type of Multi-Criteria Evaluation that allows stakeholders to rank certain criteria based on their usability and effectiveness for specific decision-making tasks.
