ABSTRACT

Rorty chooses democracy over philosophy, for he believes that it is a more certain path toward solidarity, understanding, and communication between cultures and ourselves. Democracy also means an environment more suitable for sensitivity toward the other, as well as sentimental education instead of education based on principles, rules, and laws. Most of the time, corporate law is conceived in terms of protecting shareholders. Corporate lawyers, CEOs, and board directors constantly try to reassure us that this is the only constituency they are obliged to serve. What is crucial is the free market, as well as individual freedom within its borders. They cannot be questioned and must be protected from critics, the enemy it is necessary to combat. Acknowledging that people make mistakes seems to be the most difficult part. It seems that most of the time they prefer their rationalizations to the difficulties that arise during the process of thinking critically.
