ABSTRACT

In the competition states, the overall focus is on optimizing economic growth in endless mutual competition for productivity and marketing. This includes intensive efforts to develop the most suitable labour force through education, which at the same time must be as intensive, effective and inexpensive as possible. In the various interviews, it seems clear that the conditions for young people's learning and motivation must be understood in the light of the specific learning context, but at the same time also in connection with relevant conditions and changes that dominate the countries' education policy. The most concrete expression of the competition state's approach to education and learning is that precisely competition has taken a central role, which is first and foremost expressed through the grade system, which in turn influences the environment and everyday life at the educational institutions. Many teachers may perceive the influence of digital media as a kind of competitor in relation to the usual teaching patterns.
