ABSTRACT

In Slovenia, primary education takes nine years to complete and it is compulsory. That means that primary education and lower secondary education are integrated into a single educational structure. The Slovenian national curriculum for primary schools consists of two types of activities, the goal of which is to achieve educational goals outdoors: days of activities and outdoor school. The concept of days of activities was adopted by the Expert Council of the Republic of Slovenia for General Education in 1998. Soon after Slovenia gained independence the government started to support and promote the concept of outdoor school and in 1992 it founded the Special Public Office of Centre for School and Outdoor Education (CSOD), thus laying the foundations for a swift growth of outdoor school. The CSOD centres are equipped with various gadgets and gear, which are upgraded in accordance with the development of programmes and technologies.
