ABSTRACT

Ending meditation can be used at the end of Mindfulness or other meditation courses. It helps acknowledge, accept and include the difficult feelings that often arise at times of endings. Endings are difficult. They are often a part of life that people don’t like to feel – sadness, grief, letting go, being with themselves again. They are difficult feelings and so much part of life. Most relaxation and meditation practices open doors to the subconscious, which means that unpleasant feelings and memories can suddenly arise and interfere with the peaceful state that meditation has just given people. This can be a challenge particularly in groups, where some people may be resting peacefully in their centre while others might be experiencing disturbing the emotions. It is then important to give those people who are distressed individual attention either within the group or outside the group time.
