ABSTRACT

Elementary sexuality education begins at birth. Parents communicate their sexual values to their children indirectly and nonverbally during daily interaction among family members. This generation of children and parents needs all the help it can get from schools, churches, and community organizations. Students in the first through sixth grade classes in the United States are receiving little or no formal sexuality education. It is crucial to give children accurate information prior to adolescence when they are less emotional, less likely to be experimenting with sexual behavior, and still eager to learn from adults. It is important to have school, parent, and community participation in the development and the implementation of any proposed elementary sex education program. Elementary school sexuality education should become an integral part of every elementary school program. It should be taught by the regular classroom teacher throughout the school year.
