ABSTRACT

This chapter offers different ways of thinking about organizations and, in so doing, places the concept of corporate planning into a meaningful context. The intention is to facilitate a better understanding of the language and the basic assumptions of the corporate planner in a way which will provide a direction to take equal employment opportunity (EEO) strategies that make sense within a corporate planning model without compromising some of the values which lie behind EEO legislation—values relating to equity and social justice as well as a fuller utilization of the skills and qualities of members of target groups within work organizations. The idea of corporate planning is based on a set of beliefs about organizations and the methods by which they attain their goals. The language of corporate planning is technical, and the achievement of the corporate plan is seen as depending upon rationally devised systems and techniques.
