ABSTRACT

I came into closer contact with the Hungarian jazz scene and the people behind it during the spring of 2013, when I joined the management of Szabolcs Oláh. I wanted to delve deep into this scene to see it as an individual professional sphere, together with all its unique social and cultural characteristics. It is important to note right at the beginning that I do not insist on talking about a subculture of jazz. Nevertheless, I wish to present jazz as a scene whose actors present specific and exclusive norms of behavior-a system of rules and habits. This way, the terms subculture, sphere, scene, profession and genre will all be applied in turn because they may all be relevant from certain perspectives.
