ABSTRACT

For an exact diagnosis and proper therapy, a combination of a thorough oral cavity examination under general anesthesia and skull/dental radiography and/or computed tomography is rec- ommended. An understanding of the anatomy of the skull and teeth structure is crucial. The rabbit skull, excluding the mandible, is an elongated structure that is approximately twice as long as it is wide and three times as long as it is high. Oral and dental pathology is one of the most common disorders encountered in rabbits. The mandibular condylar process articulates with an articular disk in the articular fossa of the temporal zygomatic process, immediately caudal to the orbit. Radiography of the head should be performed in all cases of suspected dental or skull disease. The mandibles are united rostrally by the cartilaginous mandibular symphysis. Conventional dorsoventral, right lateral, two lateral oblique, and rostrocaudal views are usually performed.
