ABSTRACT

Technological progress is a highly complex phenomenon that can be viewed from different aspects — economic, philosophical, sociological, etc. These various approaches are beyond the scope of our study because we are interested here only in its economic aspects. Even in such a narrow range of observation we must make a rigorous selection of issues, keeping in mind, as we do this, their closest relationship with the basic theme of our study. We are dealing with technological progress in the socialist societyQ Two general conclusions follow from this: first, the development and application of technology are, in principle, free from social b a rrie rs , and, second, they are under the conscious con trol of the society and aimed directly at the achievement of its m aterial and cultural welfare.
