ABSTRACT

The notion of equity and fairness in the provision of healthcare is a fundamental tenet of the practice of modern medicine. Virtually every professional healthcare organization in the world has expressed such sentiments and in some manner condemned differential healthcare, based not on a patient’s illness but rather on their race, ethnicity, gender, social class, or some other physical, personal, or social attribute that is not directly medically relevant to the case at hand. Yet the fact remains that all patients do not receive the same quality of healthcare.
