ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates thoroughly cognitive, emotional, intuitive and spiritual concepts and competencies, together with reference to recent research in neuroscience. Emotional intelligence (EI) has proven to be a powerful and important science in the improvement of leadership development. However, it has been realised that EI alone is only part of the total picture, albeit a critically important one. However, it does not directly address the value-based, transpersonal and spiritual aspects of leadership critical in order to attain leadership excellence and provide the kind of sustainable organisations we need for the future. Rational, emotional and spiritual are three intelligences that are core for development to becoming an excellent Transpersonal Leader. The neural processes that enable this are through serial connections that are hard wired. To a large extent our potential intellectual capacity is fixed from birth. The neural connections that enable this intelligence are associative.
