ABSTRACT

Taiwan is part of the sacred territory of China. The liberation of Taiwan and the unification of the motherland are the common aspirations of the whole Chinese people. The Chinese People's Liberation Army must make all the preparations necessary for the liberation of Taiwan. China and the United States differ in social system and ideology, and there are fundamental differences between them. Yet the two countries have quite a few points in common on some issues in the present international situation. The Sino-US Shanghai Communique issued in 1972 has brought a new turn in the relations between the two countries. These relations will continue to improve provided the principles laid down in the communique are seriously carried out. At present, the attitude of the US government toward the question of Taiwan is the obstacle to the normalization of Sino-US relations.
