ABSTRACT

Meichuan Reservoir is situated on the Meichuan River approximately two kilometers north of the town of Meichuan in Guangji xian, Hubei. The construction of the Meichuan Reservoir fundamentally changed the appearance of agricultural production in the irrigation district. Building small reservoirs is an important measure for expanding water sources, sparing the water of the core reservoir while increasing the irrigated area. Ponds are farmland water conservancy capital construction facilities which have been constructed historically by the laboring masses. The Meichuan Reservoir Management Office traversed a crooked path on the matter of the joint use of ponds and reservoirs. The early-rice growth period is the rainy season, and the ponds are full. For paddy rice, "Water is the life force of the seedlings, but it is also their sickness." Some elevated fields located along the border regions of the irrigation district are generally difficult to water.
