ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book demonstrates some of the potential pitfalls that discourse analysts who use corpora can encounter, as well as making useful suggestions relating to their avoidance. Longstanding political views can be difficult to sway and are not always influenced by rational argument or presentation of academic data, instead being driven by rhetorical fallacies or cognitive biases. Researchers who work within the framework of critical discourse analysis have stated that their form of research is more honest than others because they openly declare their political position. Several of the studies in the book have used triangulation as a way of reducing partiality. The book shows a broadening appeal of the methodology to academics working in history, economics, health, law, literature, organisational studies and political science, for example.
