ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is to discuss phenomenological methodology in a way that makes it more applicable and accessible for practitioners. The phenomenological approach aligns particularly well with the mindset of a practitioner, as the aim is to learn about the how and what of a person’s lived experiences in relation to a specific phenomenon. This chapter discusses steps in the phenomenological research process such as how to develop research questions, how and who to recruit for participation, ways to gather information, ways to conceptualize information, and how to share the information garnered through the research. The connection between practice and research is further promoted by taking the reader through a case study example that is relevant to the clinical world.
