ABSTRACT
This chapter describes and illustrates the five steps of translation in the Five-Level QDA method: identifying units, describing purposes, identifying possible components, choosing appropriate components, and finalizing the software tools to be used. We begin with writing analytic tasks in a way that facilitates translation and introduce the ANALYTIC PLANNING WORKSHEET, our primary tool for planning, managing, and documenting Five-Level QDA projects. We explain why translation is a heuristic process, and we provide instruction in each of the five steps using a sample analytic task to gradually complete the ANALYTIC PLANNING WORKSHEET as we proceed through the five steps.
