ABSTRACT

The last decade in aviation has seen much research and practical training being developed by psychologists and operational personnel, but in the main it has been the two disciplines working in their own areas to achieve a common goal, albeit from different directions. This has been especially true within the Australian environment. The defences required must also be well thought through and efficient in their capacity to prevent the accident or occurrence. It is in this area that correct and strong company cultures must exist and be led by the senior management. The Operational Team Skills Program (OTSP) seeks to extend the benefits and technology of CRM into all aspects of the organisation thus replicating CRM successes among all operational crew. The incipient objective of CRM is to harness all resources in the flightdeck, under the leadership of the captain, to effect safe and efficient flight operations.
