ABSTRACT

This talk calls for an alternate view of learning and an approach to teaching literacy that supports the process of learning. Brian Cambourne presents the shift from a psychological to a biological lens that provides a different and useful perspective on learning and learning to read. In considering a theory of learning that may be applied to a real world context based on discourse theory, framing theory, and epistemology, he argues that there are certain kinds of ecological conditions in the environment that support children’s literacy learning.
