ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, we first discuss the importance of shifting the focus of FL instruction in higher education from the language-focused (learning-to-read perspective) to the dual-focused (reading-to-learn perspective). Then, we summarize each chapter in this volume and discuss several common themes that have emerged from the seven chapters that implemented the Integrated Skills approach in different contexts. After that, we reflect on benefits and challenges stemming from our project and close the chapter by revisiting the uniqueness of the proposed approach and pointing out areas that need further efforts to promote dual-focused FL education in the future.
