ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to analyse, through an empirical survey, the relations between entrepreneurial own culture and the introduction of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in small freight transport firms in southern Italy. The growing internationalisation of logistical and transport activities has contributed to making the economic environment more complex and competitive. The entrepreneurial culture prevalent in southern Italian small and medium-sized enterprises of the traditional industries plays a critical role in implementing or impeding business change and evolution. The role of entrepreneurial culture is important in that it attects relational learning processes which firms implement with the economic environment that surrounds them. The questionnaire was designed by making allowances both for the in-house skills of Institute for Service Industry Research with regard to entrepreneurial culture and ICT, and the indications emerging from interviews with Trade Associations involved as partners in the Formazione Integrata Transnazionale project.
