ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the questions related to the origins and evolution of globalization. It discusses the reciprocal and the problematic relations between globalization and civilization. The chapter argues that under the pressure of accelerated globalization, it is unlikely that different civilizations will be able to coexist. It indicates that globalization is a new phenomenon distinct from classic interdependence. The chapter also argues that no fundamental human value has deteriorated in the process of globalization. It argues that globalization has made democracy the dominant discourse. The chapter further explores that the increasingly dominant world vision originated in Europe and expanded to the American continent to become 'Western' and is progressively on the way to becoming 'global'. It argues that today's standard of civilization originates from the newest and youngest civilization which is European and Western. The chapter analyses the main trends in the evolution of the current standard of international civilization.
