ABSTRACT

This chapter will address key factors in quality assurance and enhancements in nurse education as this applies to those with a responsibility to deliver contemporary nursing education programmes. The quality and safety of professional nursing education is of key importance in preparing students to deliver safe and compassionate care effectively as future professional practitioners. Indeed multiple stakeholder development to achieve both academic quality and professional excellence has resulted in a complex range of checks and balances for educators. This chapter explains core elements of professional regulation for quality assurance and enhancement using examples from the UK and more widely. The role of nurse educators is explored in relation to expectations for their academic and clinical professional practice and considers how these components integrate with structural requisites to assure and enhance nursing education. The chapter will be of interest to those exploring subject-level assurance as well as nurse educators seeking to fully understand the requirements of their role.
