ABSTRACT

It is widely accepted that the last decades of the twentieth century were a 'time of change'. Although change is inherent to life, what is different about this period is the speed and degree of change. The diffusion of information technology has altered the way goods and services are produced and distributed and plays a major role in the strive of business companies to survive within their changing context. However, most of the literature on the organisational efforts of restructuring and use of information technology reflects the cultural, political and socioeconomic conditions of the industrialised countries only.
