ABSTRACT

This chapter explores eros as a generative connective force that plays on embodied relationship to the more-than-human community, inviting toward its protection and care. It examines eros as that energy that plays on, within, and among bodies as seek to connect with others and the outside world via interpretive efforts. The chapter looks at the relationship among eros, language, and the creation of the commons as a critical educational endeavor. It also argues that salvation is necessarily dependent upon embodied, passionate, and ethical relationship to a larger living community. Eros plays in this complex, differentiating system of life that depend upon for survival, and so does education. Education, as an ethical endeavor, must attend erotic connections to the world around, the landscapes and the creatures, urban or rural, the practices, the languages, the relationships that can sustain life, as well as those that create havoc.
