ABSTRACT

Current processes of the 'greening of industry' are pervasive. They vary considerably, depending on place, economic imperatives, political context, industrial sectors or corporate strategies. There is resistance within industry, rearguard actions, even hollow eco-rhetoric or fake eco-marketing. But ongoing change towards the greening of industry is indisputable. In what follows, these processes are called 'eco-modernization', originally 'ecological modernization' (Hajer, 1996).
