ABSTRACT

In this book, we have explored the nexus of the relationships underlying knowledge, industry and environment primarily from the perspective of institutional innovations as they have unfolded in a variety of territories and across different spatial scales. Our introductory comments (chapter 1) emphasized the nexus of knowledge, industry and environment, as vital to understanding the evolving economic geography of the 21st century. This final chapter briefly summarizes some lessons regarding how institutions, innovations and territory shape this nexus. If there has been variation among the chapters in their relative focus on 'knowledge', 'industry' and/or 'environment', all chapters have explicitly explored the processes of institutional innovation that are so crucial, in one way or another, to the of knowledge, industry and environment nexus. Further, apart from three framework chapters (chapters 2-4), all the chapters drew upon original empirical observations pertaining to specific territories.
