ABSTRACT

The women's movement has focused people's minds on many of the traditional ideas about gender. A practical consequence of the change in thinking has been the increased, and still rising, number of women in employment. Men have to alter their thinking and their behavior in order to survive these changes, as the sense of identity and of integrity that came from being in work is no longer guaranteed. Men's circles of friendship would encourage men to discover, or rediscover, their worth through their own efforts. To celebrate the creation of circles of friendship, a suitable logo might be devised, perhaps in the form of a forest-green letter M on a cerulean blue background. At a practical level, regional men's forums would have to make recommendations about the type of support needed for those men, who are vulnerable, in order to reduce their sense of alienation and worthlessness.
