ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that regarding what constitutes good governance, sustainable democracy and the civil community. It also argues that search for a workable model of democracy has just started. The issues pointed out in the contributions are positive developments, they signify the complexity of establishing sustainable democracy in Africa and the realisation of notions such as the civil community, the positive role of the state and sustainable growth. The socio-history on state and democracy by Filatova points out persistently that the parameters of the debate are not accommodative enough for both an analysis and praxis of democracy in Africa. In research terms, much more work needs to be done on this whilst political practitioners inside or outside the civil community have a long road to map out on the route to sustainable democracy. Moreover, consequentially through commitment the changeover to sustainable democracy will be achieved.
