ABSTRACT

Understanding the governance of urban food systems is an essential precondition for attempting to improve urban food security. There are a wide range of actors involved in the governance of urban food systems, including government organisations, civil society organisations and the private sector, and they impact on urban food systems, and thus on urban food security, in a variety of ways. We need to better understand these existing urban governance processes in Africa, and the competing interests of urban governance actors, in order to be able to collaboratively develop interventions to improve urban food security.
