ABSTRACT
From the inception of International Association of Music Libraries (IAML), UK members have been deeply involved with its international work. Their participation and commitment have dispelled any image of professional insularity. As the focus of a Commonwealth of independent nations, the UK has long regarded itself as still an active player on a world stage. IAML(UK) had by then already followed the international lead and had begun offering its journal, Brio, as a complimentary gesture of interest and support. The work of IAML(UK) in Albania during the 1990s had many rewards, but there are also aspects which with wisdom of hindsight may be regarded as cautionary. At the 1993 IAML conference in Helsinki, the plenary session on international outreach included an address by a Czech colleague who listed at length all the countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union but curiously omitted any mention of Albania.
