ABSTRACT

Fortunately many things are being done to address the problems of gender bias and the rights of women through legal pronouncements. The Indian Constitution adopting the rule of law mandate provides for the equality before law and equal protection of laws for every individual. The menace of sexual harassment of women by male bosses and colleagues is not a new one. It has always worked in the direction of neutralizing the equality mandate as well as the special provisions made under Art. 15(3). Employers are instructed to ensure that witnesses are not victimized or discriminated against while dealing with complaints of sexual harassment. Various surveys and the reports on crime statistics released from time to time by the police department reveal that the cases of violence against women in public as well as in domestic sphere are on the rise.
