Rethinking the Mediterranean: Reality and Re-Presentation in the Creation ofa ‘Region’

Inasmuch as the sustained political relevance o f regions depends on people considering them to be relevant to their activities, the study o f regions must in some way include the study of meaning and identity. The main objective o f this chapter is to analyse the relevance o f ‘regions’ in general and more specifically the case of the Mediterranean ‘region’.
