ABSTRACT

Györ, a town of 130,000 inhabitants, is one of the six largest provincial centres in Hungary. It is located in north western Hungary close to the border with Slovakia and not far from the border with Austria, and lies 130 km from Budapest on the main road to Vienna. After Székesfehérvár it is the second most important provincial industrial centre. It has a mixed manufacturing base and its industries include food, engineering, transportation and textiles. The town’s unemployment rate of 8% is below the national average.
