ABSTRACT

Talent Management at the national level in Canada is a central component of Canada’s competitive economy today and innovation-driven economic growth in future. As a nation, home to Indigenous Canadians and developed through international migration with strongly-held values of international collaboration, Canada continues to invest in talent attraction and development both domestically and internationally as the global economic and social contexts and the competition for talent continue to evolve. This chapter presents a review of the macro talent management (MTM) system in Canada and examines the consequences of the Canadian macro talent context and the national processes and functions that support talent. Canada’s competitive economic position and stable political climate, coupled with the quality of societal life and of work opportunities in Canada contribute positively to Canada’s ongoing ability to compete for talent. The nation’s increased engagement with both its diaspora of globally-dispersed highly-educated and it’s internationally-experienced Canadian talent presents one of several opportunities identified to further reinforce Canada’s current macro talent strengths.
