ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we relay two interrelated stories about the interrelations between everyday experiences of mobility and feelings of belonging in order to argue that mobility and local belonging are not mutually exclusive, but constitute each other in the performance of everyday life. It is the interconnections between fluidity and solidity that give the most interesting and the most accurate picture of modern everyday life. This implies the application of methods that enable detailed empirical studies to judge the scope, character, and scale of the impact of mobility and motility on everyday life.
