ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some of the distinctive everyday practices of cycling in pro-cycling Copenhagen. We discuss cycling practices in the infrastructural spaces of Copenhagen seen from an embodied user ‘staging from below’ perspective arguing that cycling practices are not completely pre-formed and there is always something ‘more-than-designed’ to people’s practical engagement with the world. By exploring some of the materials, meanings, and competences associated with cycling in this city, we hope to answer the question: How is everyday cycling in Copenhagen performed materially, culturally, and corporeally?
