ABSTRACT

In the territory of the Crown of Aragon (made up of the states of Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia) the military organization was conditioned by the ongoing process of ‘feudalization’ and by the territorial expansion achieved through the war against the Muslims. When this war came to an end, military operations continued: in the struggles for sovereignty in the Western Mediterranean, confrontations with other Spanish kingdoms and a few internal conflicts. Although the most frequent military actions were cavalry raids and sieges of fortifications there were also some pitched battles such as Muret, Nájera and Epila or the ones fought in Sardinia and Naples.
