ABSTRACT

A blueprint guides the process of rebuilding or modernizing a structure, including the structure of a discipline. The blueprint offer attempts to begin the process of reorganization and remodeling of educational psychology, with the goal of contributing one small step toward securing its long and productive future as a leading field in psychology and in education. A primary function of a blueprint for educational psychology is to facilitate the research in education that will lead to improved educational practice through the theory-based scientific study of its problems. To move toward the development of a blueprint, and to respond to the changing nature of the field of educational psychology, the chapter focus on two areas: a definition of educational psychology, and a core curriculum for graduate education in educational psychology. The changing job market for educational psychologists, and the changing nature of the research and theory in the discipline, necessitates revisions of the graduate curricula.
