ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the Danish experience of adapting and using the quality assurance model. Commissioning is a quality assurance system that is designed as a component of project delivery. The increased complexity of buildings' technical systems has led to a greater focus on commissioning and more advisers have started offering commissioning as a consulting service to their clients. Commissioning is introduced by consulting firms and Danish Standards as a way to handle information integration across the construction project and the client organisation. The ethnographic approach was chosen to focus on the analysis of information integration as a knowledge-sharing process across knowledge boundaries. The chapter demonstrates the role of commissioning in construction and its effect on coordination, knowledge flows and practice through a case study about the design phase of a large municipal school in Copenhagen. Previous municipal projects have identified large gap between the energy consumption calculated in the design phase and the actual energy consumption in operation.
