ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on human augmentics, artificial intelligence, and sentience. It draws inspiration from the work of many luminaries who approach augmented, alternative forms of intelligence and consciousness, and from an interdisciplinary point of view, including Donna Haraway, Judith Donath, Steve Jones, Mimi Ito, and Judy Wajcman. The contributors generously delved into deep conversation about the meaning of the three words and have also taken on the task, here and in their other work, of reimagining how people define thinking, feeling, and acting. The book embraces forms of intelligence and sentience that evolve beyond boundaries imposed by humans. It concludes that in the spirit of the meta, artistic, and scholarly, license will be given to authors to present their thoughts in the form they see fit.
