ABSTRACT

Federica Cisilino Introduction Innovation is a difficult concept to define and it is still more difficult to track in the agri-food sector, characterized as it is by small and medium sized firms (SMEs). The ability to innovate, however, is one of the most important factors in competitiveness. It requires a continual series of actions and decisions concerning the adoption of new technologies and new commercial policies as well as adapting methods and job procedures, maintaining lean structures, identifying and dealing with areas of weakness and finding new solutions in order to face the challenges posed by increasing competition and continual market evolution.
