ABSTRACT

Senior leaders must be accessible, authentic and visible if they want to engage people across the organisation. In the role of Pilot, they will already be engaging if they follow the approaches required of a manager as Culture Builder. Senior leaders are obliged to be even more visible, highly authentic and accessible to people beyond their own direct reporting line. They can achieve this in the following ways:

Senior leaders need to authentic when conducting activity to engage others. If they try to be someone they’re not, it will shine through incredibly brightly. Being authentic means understanding more about yourself (as your work to improve your manager as Culture Builder skills will have helped you identify) and how you operate when you are at your best. If you are an extrovert who loves being around others, find ways to engage with others that allow you to be this way. If you feel more comfortable meeting people oneto-one, use engagement approaches that lend themselves to more intimate opportunities that allow you to tell the story and build trust.
