ABSTRACT
In finance and accounting organizations worldwide, a revolution is being carried
out today. Due to the fact that few people in relation to the total population have any
kind of relationship to a company’s accounting work, it is not being widely noted and
does not seem to be a ghost nor a danger, but the magnitude of this change is
substantial and will be felt by most customers and consumers too. A new way of
organizing back-office functions is being implemented across companies worldwide
and finance is a front runner in taking this up. This finance revolution, called ‘shared
services’, has taken over as the most discussed topic in finance in the last ten years and
it will stay with us for some time to come.
